It is my distinct pleasure to be able to welcome you to Walt Whitman High School, home of the Wildcats. Whether as a returning member of the student body, or an incoming freshman, I believe that students will have every opportunity to make this educational journey their own and build lasting relationships with peers, faculty, and the surrounding community. The programs, classes, and overall opportunities provided will have a lasting effect and afford students with the resources necessary to be successful in all of their endeavors. Please take the time to look throughout our website as it will serve as a valuable resource for students, parents, and community members. Our site provides a whole host of important information such as daily announcements, exam schedules, course offerings, guidance information, and information regarding upcoming school events.
Walt Whitman High School is a comprehensive high school for students in grades 9-12 located in the South Huntington School District. The staff here at Walt Whitman provides rigorous and dynamic educational programs and extra-curricular opportunities to meet the needs of all students. All programs and initiatives within the High School are designed to promote the academic, social, and emotional needs of all within the high school setting by valuing the concepts of character, pride, and diversity among the students and staff.
Our core course offerings include the required studies in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Students are offered a multitude of elective and advanced courses to better fit the needs of every learner. These elective, AP, and advanced courses are available in such areas as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, World Languages, Business, and Fine Arts.
In addition to being committed to providing a supportive and challenging academic environment, we encourage all students to become active in our school through after school clubs, athletic, and community oriented events. There is an array of extracurricular and athletic opportunities that provides all of our students with a rich and diverse high school experience. Student government, Robotics, DECA, Latino Dance, SADD, African American Heritage Clubs, junior varsity and varsity sports teams, are just a few of the activities provided. These clubs and activities allow the students of Walt Whitman to attain the full high school experience and make life-long connections to the school.
It is the goal of administration and staff to make each student’s experiences unique and rewarding. Whether in the classroom, during club activities, or while participating in athletics, each student will find themselves challenged to attain the goals set before them. We pride ourselves in the ability to meet the needs of all students as we prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
