Walt Whitman High School students Maya Wedner and Meroshka Ishak recently interned at the  Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition. The Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition (HBCAC) is a 30 year grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to the eradication of breast cancer and other diseases through education and awareness. The organization provides aid to those with breast cancer, along with providing a platform for environmental public health and primary prevention advocacy.

The Students & Scientists Environmental Research Scholarship Program provides opportunities for students to work beside world-renowned professionals and give back to the greater community, translating and disseminating that information on multiple platforms. Students at Walt Whitman have continued to work with the NYS Children's Environmental Health Centers, developing messages to the community.

Maya and Meroshka recently presented to a Research classes at the high school. The presentation was about Environmental Health about endocrine disruptors, food safety and personal care products. Thank you to Maya and Meroshka for sharing your knowledge gained from your participation within this organization!

Maya Wedner and Meroshka Ishak brought knowledge gained from their internship at the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition to the Science and Research classroom to teach their peers.

Students and teachers took some time to analyze the labels on common skin care products to discuss the possible health effects of certain ingredients.
