Lip Sing for Scholarships 2024

On Friday, March 1, 2024, the South Huntington Council of PTAs hosted the fourth annual Lip Sing for Scholarships event. Tickets were completely sold out as lucky viewers were able to watch the live performances at Walt Whitman High School or from home and send in their votes for who they believed outperformed the rest. The Performing Arts Center was filled with excitement from all of our district students and families supporting their school teachers and administration.

With our gracious hosts Superintendent, Dr. Vito D’Elia, and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, Eddie Smith, the night went off without a hitch. The well-dressed duo introduced our performing acts and made special note to thank our sponsors who aided in making this year’s event possible. The performances from each of our school buildings delighted students and parents alike, bringing so much excitement to viewers both in person and watching virtually.

We were incredibly impressed by the creativity of our staff as they took the stage in perfectly planned costumes and choreography to match. At the end of the night it was Maplewood Intermediate School who claimed the Lip Sing Champion title, ending the three year reign of Oakwood Primary Center! While each of our schools had incredible routines, they were no match for their medley performance. Ticket sales and votes purchased during and before the event were used to raise money for senior scholarships, and this year, we were able to raise over $8,000 that will directly benefit Whitman students!

From every song choice to every tremendous dance move, it truly was a night to remember.  We would like to thank all of our performers for making this show so much fun to watch as well as to our sponsors whose generosity helped make this event happen. A special thank you to our South Huntington Council of PTAs and to everyone who was able to join us for this year’s Lip Sing for Scholarships event! We hope you have enjoyed this show as much as we have enjoyed putting it together!

Countrywood opened up the night with their Trolls Movie inspired performance.

It was a Barbie world for Oakwood as they took the stage to try claiming the championship title for the fourth year in a row.

Birchwood was full of pep with their Taylor Swift Medley.

Maplewood performed a medley featuring Danza Kuduro and I Got a Feeling with 'DJ Hender' leading the way.

Thank you to our special guest judges Juliet Boccia, Jaren Smullian and Willie the Wildcat!

Silas Wood took the stage as recognizable Sesame Street characters for their mash up performance.

Stimson Principal, Mike Duggan, had the crowd singing "Peaches" for the rest of the night.

The high school administration pulled out all the stops for their medley.

Even South Huntington's Cabinet and Board of Education joined in on the fun with their performance from Grease.

Congratulations to Oakwood for being this year's "WOW" Award Winner, Birchwood on being the "Good Effort" Winner, Countrywood for winning "Best Choreography," and to Walt Whitman on winning "Crowd's Choice!"
