Marching Band Banquet Celebrates 2022 Season District

The Walt Whitman High School Marching Band celebrated their season with the annual Band Banquet on December 10th.  The event recognizes band members for their years of service and their academic achievements.  It was a night filled with food, music, dancing, and fond memories of a season that began back in August.

The American Legion Hall on Mill Dam Road in Huntington was divinely decked out by the devoted Band Parent Association (BPA) in balloons, music notes, clock faces and other decorations highlighting this year’s show performance, A Journey in Time.  The BPA also gifted each band member with a marching band yearbook packed with photos and highlights of this year’s season, and photo buttons of their yearbook picture and this year’s show logo.

The awards presentations wrapped up the night as the BPA Board Members stepped up to a table filled with pins, medals, trophies, school letters, and plaques.  The first award of the night was the scholar marching band student award called Minds on the March.  It is presented to students who maintain an average grade of 90 or higher while participating in marching band.  We’re proud to say that out of 58 band members, more than half the band received the Minds on the March award.

Band members were then recognized for their years of service and commitment - from one to five years.  Stimson students can join the Walt Whitman High School Marching Band in 8th grade.

The South Huntington Board of Education wanted to add its thanks to the Whitman Marching Band by presenting certificates to our graduating Seniors. BOE President Nicholas Ciappetta, along with Superintendent Dr. Vito D’Elia, personally thanked each Senior for their dedication and commitment to the school, the district and the community.

Then it was on to the entertainment!  The highly anticipated photo slideshow and video highlighting the craziness, joy, exhaustion and fun of the band season that runs non-stop from August through the very end of October.  Drum Major (and video yearbook staff member) Victoria Pascrell had been gathering photos and videos from everyone - band members and parents - throughout the season, and put together an incredible 15-minute video that had everyone laughing - and crying - remembering moments that will bond these band members together for years to come!  Congratulations Wildcats!  Eyes With Pride!

Whitman colors Maroon and White, plus music notes and clock faces were all part of the festive decor celebrating this year’s show, A Journey in Time, at the annual Marching Band Banquet.
