At our most recent Board of Education meeting, the South Huntington School District’s Board of Education chose their 2022-23 Ex-Officio Student Member of the Board, Samantha Regalado.

Samantha is currently a senior at Walt Whitman High School and is a natural leader who promotes acceptance and fosters diverse interests amongst her peers. She is the founder and President of the Women in STEM Club, Secretary of the Walt Whitman Fashion Club and Vice President of the acclaimed Voices of Walt Whitman. In addition to her leadership roles, Samantha is a member of the World Language, Social Studies, English and Mathematics Honor Societies, as well as the SADD Club and Science Bowl Team.

“With such a diverse background, we know Samantha will provide important insight and perspective, and we are proud to have her as this year’s Ex-Officio Student Board Member,” said Board of Education President, Nicholas Ciappetta.

When asked what piqued her initial interest in becoming South Huntington’s second Ex-Officio Student Member of the Board, Samantha stated, “I’ve always been very proud of our school and our district so I wanted to help in whatever way I could.”

As an Ex-Officio Student Board member, Samantha is given the opportunity to sit with the Board of Education to report on the things that happen in the district that are of importance to her and her peers. She will also sit on a couple of committees, including Curriculum Council, and Health and Wellness Council, to provide valuable feedback.

“I hope to be a greater voice for the entire student body, especially those students who are often underrepresented,” Samantha added about her motivation to take on this position. “I’m grateful to be able to voice our concerns and give some input as to what it’s like from a student perspective.”

Congratulations Samantha!

The South Huntington School District Board of Education is excited to welcome the Walt Whitman Senior as this year's Ex-Officio Student Member of the Board.
