Former Walt Whitman High School Principal, Dr. John Murphy, is now proudly serving as South Huntington School District’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.   He had served as Walt Whitman High School’s Principal from 2015 to 2021.

Once he became the principal at Whitman Whitman High School, this experience touched Dr. Murphy’s life in a beautiful way. “It was the best time of my career,” he expressed. “I met some amazing people and made lifelong friends with the students, teachers, faculty and parents.”

His son, Shaun Murphy, is now going to be a sophomore at Whitman. “It was the best decision I ever made for my son in his education,” Dr. Murphy voiced. His family has been living in the district now for almost four years.

In his spare time, Dr. Murphy loves to be on the water and goes boating whenever he can. He enjoys fishing and spending as much time with family as possible.

As Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Murphy’s goal is to provide as many students the opportunity to excel, while continuing to make them understand how special they are and how far they can go.  “My goal is to keep pushing programs and our staff across all grade levels to make sure that students know that they have the ability to be successful,” Dr. Murphy concluded.
