Birchwood Instructional Technology Coach, Mrs. Barbara Hall, and Maplewood Technology Integration Coach, Mrs. Janine D’Elia, presented with students at the Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Educational Technology (ASSET) recently at the Huntington Hilton. The Birchwood and Maplewood Technology Ambassadors showcased how they use the Spike Lego Essential kits to promote digital fluency and computer science standards within their classrooms.

At this year’s ASSET Conference, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. D’Elia presented an overview of how the district has implemented the LEGO Learning System into Maplewood and Birchwood intermediate schools. They outlined the student’s journey which includes practical application to NY State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards, Amplify Science and the benefits of students learning through play.

The LEGO Learning System enables students of South Huntington to be creators, builders, engineers, coders, as well as encouraging wonder and creativity. This engaging program gives equitable access to all learners throughout the district to robotics, computer science, and science investigation. The LEGO Learning System has provided a hands-on learning experience focusing on computer science, science, robotics engineering and much more.

Through LEGO Education, South Huntington students are becoming confident learners while growing their 21st century skills. Thank you to our student Technology Ambassadors and Coaches from Birchwood and Maplewood for a fantastic job representing South Huntington at this year’s conference!
