More than 2,500 people, mostly families, stood in line inside and outside of the North Gym at Walt Whitman High School on Saturday, December 16th to get food, clothing, personal care items and toys to help them celebrate the holidays.

The event at the high school was part of the inaugural “Holiday Blessings Tour” organized by the non-profit organization God’s Blessings Plan that serves Long Island and all five boroughs of New York City. Through the organization’s partnership with Feed the Children and corporate sponsors, a truck loaded with donations is visiting a total of four Long Island communities during the month of December.  Huntington Station was the third stop.  Volunteers unloaded pallets of food, clothing, toys and personal care items including diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent, soap and deodorant.  Kiora Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of God’s Blessings Plan said the turnout at Whitman was the largest so far.  Organizers had to shut down the line earlier than expected and the supplies were all given out before the scheduled 2PM end time.

The mission of God’s Blessings Plan is to bring love and compassion and basic necessities to the most vulnerable in our local communities through outreach programs that treat people with dignity without discrimination.  Organizers believe that is most needed during the holidays and that’s how the Holiday Blessings Tour began.
