We are excited to welcome Ms. Laura Brothers as South Huntington School District’s new School Transportation Supervisor!

Ms. Brothers, who has been driving buses since 1999, has displayed her caring nature through her different job experiences. Before becoming a school bus driver, Ms. Brothers worked as the former manager of a no-kill animal shelter. She earned her Grooming Certificate from the New York School of Dog Grooming, and would work both of these roles simultaneously. “I would drive the bus in the morning, dog grooming in the middle, and then I’d drive in the afternoon,” she shared.

“I’ve been in transportation almost half of my life,” shared Brothers who had been driving buses from 1999 to 2010.  After taking the civil service exam for dispatcher, in 2015 Brothers landed an interview with Wyandanch Union Free School District and worked as School Bus Driver Coordinator, Transportation Supervisor, and Coordinator until 2020.  “Transportation is in my blood,” Brothers continued.

Throughout the uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brothers knew “parents in our community were worried” of their children returning to school. She strongly believes that parents, seeing familiar faces transporting their children, helped many of them feel more comfortable in sending them to in-person learning. “South Huntington is really about community,” she said. Communication between administration is key to form a combined effort to support the families in the district.

Ms. Brothers appreciates all of the parents and community members who trust her team to transport their “most precious cargo,” the children. “It doesn’t get any more precious than that.”  “We’ll go the extra mile,” Brothers concluded.
