A beautiful new mural welcomes everyone as they walk through the main entrance of Stimson Middle School. There's a lot of boring yellow tile in that main hallway and Principal Duggan wanted to do something to make kids feel more joyful and happy, and thought a colorful mural expressing Stimson pride would do that. Art teacher Linda Salta did the design work, and a group of students, art club members, and two of Stimson’s permanent subs picked up their paintbrushes and brought the mural to life.  

When you look at the details, you’ll see each letter illustrates everything that happens at Stimson including academics, art, music, theater, sports and clubs. The mural also pays homage to South Huntington’s centennial year - 1924 to 2024. That’s the reason for the number 24 on the athletic jersey in the second ‘S.’ The artwork also highlights Long Island’s coastal location with the water, sailboats and the lighthouse. 

A second mural was also painted upstairs between the two art rooms. That mural incorporates parts of several well known masterpieces by artists Michaelangelo, Vincent van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Edvard Munch and Frida Kahlo. Mr. Duggan says there will be more hallway artwork to come!

Thank you so much to Ms. Linda Salta, permanent subs Ms. Caterina Cacioppo and Ms. Payton Vogt, and students Fiona Mockler, Genesis Aparicio, Holden Helsetin, Kaylee Jean Macias, Gabrielle Galindez, Daniel Wilson, Ava Campagna, Naveen Zahid, and Samantha Szwedo for volunteering their time to create this artistic addition to Stimson!
