At South Huntington we celebrate and support the profound impact that the arts have on shaping well-rounded individuals. Across music, art, theater and dance, our comprehensive K-12 arts curriculum nurtures every student’s artistic journey. We offer an enriching environment that empowers students to explore, create, perform, and excel in a wide range of artistic disciplines, providing them with the tools they need to succeed in both their academic and artistic pursuits.

K-12 Comprehensive Arts Curriculum
Our K-12 arts program is designed to foster a deep appreciation for all artforms while developing essential skills in performance, theory, technique, movement, composition and more. Students receive a well-rounded education that spans from foundational knowledge in the early grades to advanced studies in high school. From learning the basics to mastering advanced skills, our arts curriculum prepares students for a lifetime of arts achievement and enjoyment.

4-12 Instrumental and Choral Music Program
Our band, orchestra and choral music programs offer students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to learn and perform varied repertoire in a multitude of settings including our Performing Arts Center. From the first notes played or sung to the complex harmonies of advanced musical genres, students develop strong musical foundations and beyond. With a focus on ensemble performance, our programs help students develop teamwork, personal discipline, and the ability to collaborate with others in creating beautiful music. Our performing ensembles regularly achieve the prestigious NYSSMA Gold/Gold with Distinction level rating, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and musical excellence of our students and faculty. These ensembles—comprising orchestra, band, and choir across all district buildings represent the pinnacle of student achievement in music, regularly performing at a level that rivals professional groups.

8-12 Dance Program
Our Middle and High School dance programs provide students with the opportunity to explore various styles of movement, from ballet, modern dance to classical studio techniques. Through these classes, students not only develop strength and technical skills but also learn how to express emotion, tell stories, choreograph and communicate through the language of movement. Our dance program is an essential part of our commitment to fostering creativity and physical expression in all students. Our dance program culminates in an annual dance concert each year in the PAC!

District Theater Programs (Oakwood & Countrywood, Birchwood & Maplewood, Silas Wood & Stimson, Walt Whitman)
Theater is an integral part of our extra-curricular arts program, with elementary, middle, and high school students taking part in multiple productions that range from classic plays to contemporary performances and broadway musicals. Students develop acting, blocking, stage management, lighting, sound and various production skills. These students gain confidence while learning the art of storytelling. Our theater program fosters collaboration and creativity, allowing students to experience the thrill of bringing scripts and songs to life on stage.

Fine and Performing Art Electives: Exploring Creativity Across Disciplines
Our art program offers a wide variety of electives that allow students to explore and develop their creative abilities. From drawing and painting to computer graphics and photography, students have opportunities to experiment with different mediums. Electives like AP Art, ceramics, jewelry making, cartooning and more further enhance students' artistic skill sets. Additionally, courses in music production, music theory, and guitar provide students with the chance to refine their musical talents and explore new forms of creative expression. Extra-Curricular Activities: A Hub of Artistic Expression
We believe that creativity should extend beyond the classroom, which is why our extra-curricular activities give students the chance to pursue their artistic passions in specialized ensembles and clubs. Our jazz bands, chamber strings, pit orchestra, treble choir, chorale, and competitive Wildcat Marching Band are all opportunities for students to showcase their talents in a variety of musical genres. In addition, groups like the winter guard, guitar club, winter percussion, and the Collective Recording Studio Club provide exciting ways for students to explore the arts and create something extraordinary.
