The 3rd Annual Maplewood Veterans Day Breakfast was simply an honor. Thirty-five Veterans spent the morning at Maplewood Intermediate School, along with even more family members, students, staff, and district administrators. 

The Maplewood 5th Grade Chorus started the special event with a musical performance, singing “The Star Spangled Banner” by Francis Scott Key and “The United States” by Susan Nipp. Maplewood Principal, Ms. Maria Colon, shared her opening remarks and introduced Dr. D’Elia, Dr. Hender, and student Board of Education member Miss Gracie DeMarinis as the morning’s guest speakers. 

In addition to celebrating all of the veterans, a special recognition was given to Maplewood’s Occupational Therapist, Mr. James Christine. Mr. Christine was recognized not only for his military experience, but also for running the 2024 NYC Marathon to raise funds for the Glen Doherty Foundation, a charity that supports veterans transitioning into civilian careers.

We send a big thank you to the team of Maplewood family members who made the Veterans Breakfast in early November so successful.  We also thank School Nutrition Services for the  tasty meal they provided for our Veterans, students and families.
