Whitman Senior Wins First Place in Suffolk County Bike Safety Contest

Congratulations to Walt Whitman High School senior Andreas Psarris for being awarded 1st Place in the 2025 Suffolk County Bicycle Safety Video Contest!
Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin selected Andreas’ video to represent our district to the entire legislature. As the winner, Andreas was invited to be recognized by all 18 Legislators at their General Meeting on Tuesday, April 8th at the Suffolk County Legislature in Riverhead.
Andreas’ video submission stood out among entries from all 18 legislative districts in the countywide competition. Each year, the legislature challenges students to educate their peers and communities on the importance of bike safety through art, messaging and storytelling. “Andreas rose to that challenge in an exceptional way,” said Legislator Rebecca Sanin during the special recognition in Riverhead this morning. “With his knowledge, creativity, and video making talent, Andreas produced an engaging and informative video that captured both the importance and the fun of bike safety.”
It is a great privilege to recognize Andreas as an outstanding young leader. The Walt Whitman High School senior not only demonstrated tremendous creativity, but also an inspiring commitment to public safety. Andreas’ work stood out among entries from across the county and has earned the incredible honor of being featured by the Suffolk County Police Department in their countywide bike safety campaign.
“Andreas, your video will make a difference,” Legislator Sanin expressed directly to Whitman’s contest winner. “It will save lives, it will spark conversations, and model the kind of leadership that we need in every community.”
Thank you Andreas and congratulations!
