South Huntington's Homecoming Weekend 2026

It was another fun-filled, festive Homecoming Weekend in South Huntington! Crisp fall weather was the perfect setting for this Wildcat tradition, bringing together our entire community from our youngest Pre-K students to our high school juniors and seniors.
The excitement kicked off early Friday morning with the annual Powder Puff Run. Whitman juniors and seniors ran the hallways in uniform and costume, pumping up school spirit ahead of the big games. During 9th period, the rousing Pep Rally in the North Gym energized the crowd with awesome performances by the Whitman Varsity and JV Cheerleaders, the Whitman Dance Team, Latino Heritage Club Dance Team, Caribbean Dance Team, and the Whitman Step Team.
Following the rally, students and families from all our district’s schools gathered outside Walt Whitman High School for the Homecoming Carnival. Over the last decade, South Huntington has transformed homecoming from a standard high school tradition into an inclusive event for the entire community. Everyone enjoyed music, inflatable rides, carnival games, a petting zoo, food trucks, and a crowd-favorite return performance by Zabo’s Circus. The carnival concluded with the school’s traditional bonfire, under the watchful eyes of the Huntington Manor Fire Department.
As evening fell, all eyes turned to the athletic field for the sold-out Juniors vs. Seniors Powder Puff Football Game. The high-energy night ended in a "Senior Sweep.” The Senior girls secured a 35-28 victory on the field, while the Senior boys took top honors with their dynamic halftime dance routine!
The celebration continued Saturday afternoon with the Homecoming Parade featuring the Walt Whitman and Stimson Marching Bands, Whitman and Stimson cheerleaders, creative class floats, local clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and proud students, staff, teachers, and alumni representing all South Huntington schools. The parade began at Whitman, made its way to Jericho Turnpike, and marched back to Whitman through the neighborhood displaying lots of Wildcat Pride!
Then it was time for football under the lights! Saturday night’s game was the last home game of the regular season. The Wildcats brought home a big win against Central Islip 41-10 to improve their record to 4-3 on the season!. Jason Thompson had 6 catches for 206 yards, a receiving touchdown, and added a rushing touchdown and an interception on defense. Dodge Alahverdian completed 12 of 18 passes for 288 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ronnie Park had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. Mark Rutledge and Timmy Harrison added receiving touchdowns as well. Rutledge, Lucas Tonna, and Chase Gottesman led the team in tackles.
Thank you to everyone in our school community who came out to show their Wildcat pride and make this year's Homecoming another unforgettable success!
