Team Maplewood Runs to Raise Money for Maggie’s Mission
Congratulations to Team Maplewood for their hard work and dedication helping an important cause that’s very close to their hearts! A team of 40 strong didn’t let the rain stop them as they took part in Maggie’s Sunset S’more-K - a 4K cross country race at Sunken Meadow State Park on Saturday, September 28th - to benefit Maggie's Mission. In addition to the great feeling from helping others, the other treat was the chance to make and eat s’mores!
Maggie’s Mission supports research to find cures for pediatric cancers, and provides financial assistance to families who are affected. Maggie's Mission is a non-profit organization that was started by Maplewood teacher Steve Schmidt, who lost his daughter, Maggie, to a rare form of pediatric cancer when she was 17. Maplewood has done so much to support their beloved teacher and his family, and every Thursday staff members wear MM gear!
Team Maplewood raised about $3,000 for Maggie’s Mission this September through race participation, and bracelet and merchandise sales. The Maplewood family has consistently supported the charity since 2017. They've also raised thousands doing the Maggie's Challenge fundraising initiative over the years. The organization estimates that Maplewood has raised a total of nearly $60,000 for Maggie's Mission so far.
