WWHS Senior Spearheads Toy Drive for Little Wildcats

When Mrs. O’Neill assigned her leadership students the Make Whitman an Even Better Place Project, senior Lindsay Alms came up with an idea that directly gives back to our community’s pre-K students.
For her Make Whitman an Even Better Place Project, Lindsay spearheaded a fundraiser to collect gently used and new toys for the Little Wildcats, a pre-K community program housed at Walt Whitman High School and coordinated by teacher and Little Wildcats Director, Mrs. Zamow. Students Madison Caiazzo, Molly Scavo and Haylee Lemke were placed in Lindsay’s group for this project and assisted in this fundraiser.
“I could not be more proud of these young ladies for their hard work in making this idea come to fruition,” shared social studies and leadership teacher, Mrs. Kathleen O’Neill.
The fundraising team put flyers up in each of the school buildings in the district, including promotions in the high school’s morning announcements, decorated boxes to be placed in the Main Offices at all South Huntington schools, and picked up and delivered the donations.
“They are indeed leaders and certainly made Whitman a Better Place with Lindsay's creative idea,” Mrs. O’Neill proudly added. Thank you to Lindsay and her classmates for completing this thoughtful project!

The new and gently used toys were collected and delivered to Walt Whitman High School where the Little Wildcats program is run.
Our Little Wildcats are sure going to love these new toys!
